Mark Young

The Relic

10 years—at
least—in the
making, &
the second
season of
flowering;

but after
wind, birds,
possums, &
flying foxes—
as well as the
natural loss that
occurs over
time—there is
only the one
small lychee
left for the
picking.

Which, when
the hard red
pimpled skin
is peeled off,
reveals a bracelet
of edible flesh
around the
stone, barely
a nanometer
thick. How
very meta-
physical.
